World Affairs for 2015 SEPTEMBER I

10th September 2015

“The humanitarian crisis gets worse in the Middle East”

“It is now up to the Muslim population themselves to come up to the plate and deal with their fellow Muslims”

“The war in Yemen has resulted in 80% of the population needing humanitarian aid”

“The Libyan conflict has yet to release their burden of displaced people. When they do it will add millions more to the refugee exodus”

“The solutions to all these crises is to end the persecution, but none of these conflicts show signs of abating soon”

“This raises many questions on the leadership in the Arab Muslim world”

“Senior officials in Eastern Europe have already declared their opposition into taking in Muslim refugees”

“This is something Western Europe avoids mentioning”

“A British Muslim MP has evoked the memory of the Kindertransport where thousands of mainly Jewish children were rescued before World War II”

“She obviously could not find any example of anything like it in Islamic history”

“There has been no mention of any Middle Eastern leaders on this topic”

“It has been the ordinary people from these regions, who are voicing their shame and frustration via social media”

“The Arabic hashtag #arabconscience.” argues that the Arab world is ignoring Arab refugees”

“They are looking for salvation in the West, because they cannot get it in the Middle East”

“Another campaign on this subject asks the wealthy Gulf States to relax their rules on refugees”

“There have already been over 12,000 tweets showing the populist demand to let refugees into Saudi Arabia”

“The Gulf States have unimaginable wealth”

“They have constructed the tallest buildings, built lavish palaces and provided spectacular places for worship”

“They have even created universities that have their own railway”

“The region has no shortage of jobs or space”

“Millions of professionals & labourers are imported from across the world to serve their lifestyles, ambitions & enterprises for their states”

“The West might be responsible for the Sykes-Picot agreement”

“However the Middle East has benefitted from these agreements and recent western military intervention”

“It is now in their interest to deal with the consequences”

“The Middle East might argue that refugees might pose an extremist threat”

“This of course is already possible with those that the West has already taken in”

“It is the failure of these Muslim Governments to look after Muslim refugees that are now being exploited by extremist’s propaganda”

“It shows that Muslim rulers have abandoned their religious and moral responsibilities for the worldwide Muslim community”

“They are only interested in what the Islamic state can provide”

“A thirteen year old Arab refugee said he didn’t want asylum or hand-outs. He simply asked that the war in Syria was stopped”

“Maybe the Arab Governments will finally demonstrate superior moral and political leadership and deal with these matters?”

“It is by actively showing that they are dealing with the needs of their fellow Muslim refugees that…”

“…they would do more for their cause to countermine the extremist’s power!”

“The Saudi Arabian Government must start to justify their claim of Islamic authenticity”

“They must start by delivering the Prophetic model “rahmat ul-alameen,” which means a mercy for mankind!”

“It is now time that the Muslim states come up to the plate and addressed their own people”

“They can no longer expect the Western world to keep doing their job for them!”

9th September 2015

“Britain’s Queen Elizabeth, who ascended the throne aged 25 years old, has made history today by becoming the UK’s longest reigning monarch”

“A lady of great dignity, service and charm, she has not always agreed with the British public”

“However she has had to succumb to what she feels is right, sometimes against her better judgement”

“Queen Elizabeth has been brought up with duty as the main priority of her life and what is expected of her throughout her reign”

“It is this responsibility to the duty of the office she holds, that is very dear to her heart and mind”

“Queen Elizabeth is not easily flustered”

“This Queen has imposed her will of steadfastness to the cause of reigning without question in a world that reaps havoc everywhere one turns”

“On many occasions she has had to re-invent herself and the Monarchy”

“She has had to steer it through the many difficult times when unforeseen events steered it off course”

“Queen Elizabeth has tried in every way possible to bend with the tide of change in an ever developing world”

“Elizabeth II has been able to stand the test of time”

“Whatever your feelings are about the Royal Family and the Queen Elizabeth especially…”

“…she is at the heart of every decision that brings about unity to a family that is as diverse as the world is itself”

“The Queen has had to hold onto the reins of being instrumental on its course for change and…”

“…to become established with a strong foothold in today’s modern society”

“She has evolved and tried her best to bring about peace and harmony to all those whom she holds dear to herself”

“Her overseas work with The Commonwealth has been a joy”

“She personally holds the responsibility for it and she fights in her own way to bring about justice in an unjust world”

“Queen Elizabeth will always find time to listen and to express her feelings in an upright responsible way”

“She has spread her influence both in Great Britain and abroad. There are many in the world who seek her opinion as a voice of experience”

“She has never let them down!”

“Her domestic life is full of fun, but equally of confrontation”

“This she has had to balance out in her own way, succeeding on most occasions”

“Her legacy of the many things that she has singlehandedly achieved will only be revealed once she has passed on!”

“Queen Elizabeth is an enigma that one thinks they know her, when in fact they really do not!”

“She holds her own views very much to her chest and will only voice them to a few chosen loyal subjects”

“Her family and her extended family mean the world to her”

“Her Nation is an extension of that family of which she works tirelessly to bring about results that would otherwise never get known about”

“Where she will never be seen to have her own views, they are voiced by others whom she sees will be able to carry out her wishes & concerns”

“This is always done in sympathy to the cause and with the utmost secrecy and discretion”

“Queen Elizabeth is a force to be reckoned with”

“Do not just see her as this tiny old lady with her infectious smile”

“She is a formidable player in a world of politics when she feels the need”

“Queen Elizabeth knows about life and the history of things”

“She is well educated and well-informed & where she feels she is able to do her bit to get matters put right, she is well ahead of the game”

“The political system in Great Britain and the press management of affairs cannot hold a candle to her expertise, advice and knowhow”

“She surpasses them all!”

“Ever active & changing, where necessary & when the need arises, Queen Elizabeth is always at the helm of new ways of working & influencing”

“Queen Elizabeth has made her role as Queen her own”

“She governs in a way that one wouldn’t think possible, but in fact she has got it down to a fine and active art”

“This is an insight into the Queen that many would not know about, except a loyal chosen few and they would never divulge!”

8th September 2015

“Barbara Knickerbocker-Beskind, is a 91 year old inventor with visual impairment, she designs for her generation”

“This amazing woman is an absolute Godsend to all those she comes in contact with”

“Beskind has a coveted job as a designer at IDEO, a world renowned consulting company that is famous for inventing the first Apple mouse”

“Barbara Knickerbocker-Beskind is living her dreams of being an inventor”

“As a child during the Depression when her father was out of work for seven years, she started making things like toys for herself & others”

“Beskind, aged eight, built a hobby horse from old tyres for her friend, who couldn’t afford one”

“At high school she knew she wanted to be an inventor, but was told that women couldn’t go to engineering school”

“Beskind went on to earn her degree in Home Economics and then enlisted in the army at the end of World War II”

“Later she trained in occupational therapy and helped badly burned soldiers regain the use of their scarred hands”

“She devised equipment to deal with the patient’s needs and adapted devices to make them more independent”

“This included how they could hold a spoon, a fork and writing utensils”

“When she retired from the army as Major, she opened the nation’s first free-standing occupational therapy clinic in 1966”

“She is best known for her innovative rehabilitation techniques”

“Beskind patented an inflated square pillow about 3 feet high, which rolls around on the outside to protect children when they fall”

“She calls it a space ship. It is fun for them and improves their sense of balance”

“Now Beskind helps IDEO design things for the elderly and aging population like hearing aids”

“These hearing aids were intended to hold batteries, but older hands cannot handle these tiny batteries”

“She has suggested that the product be made to recharge at night when it was not being used

“The younger inventors cannot know what it is like to be old and have no idea what the elderly need for their security and wellbeing”

“Beskind is able to advise and put the important matters into context, so that the elderly can benefit in so many different ways”

“On a personal level, because Beskind’s central vision is lost she has no vision of people’s faces”

“She would like a camera mounted on the bridge of a pair of glasses that has face recognition”

“As a person approaches they would say, “This is Gloria.” The next time that person approaches, it would say in her ear, “This is Gloria.”

“That way she can meet people and there would be no need for them to tell her who they are”

“The elderly need practical things to keep their lives functioning for as long as possible”

“This allows independence and it keeps them safe and gives them joy”

“The elderly are an untapped resource, whose input should be sought”

“With this amazing woman at the helm of so many discoveries, she is still in her element and we are all bless to have her there”

“Long may Barbara Knickerbocker-Beskind continue; she is an inspiration to us all!”

7th September 2015

“Durrington Walls super-henge is a huge ritual monument, which dates from the time of Stonehenge”

“It has been discovered hidden under the bank of a nearby Stone Age enclosure”

“Durrington Walls is a roundish super-henge, which has long puzzled archaeologists”

“This is because one side is straight while the rest of the structure is curved”

“With ground-penetrating radar, it has now been found that the straight end is actually aligned over a row of ninety massive standing stones”

“These stones once stood fifteen feet high and formed a C-shaped arena, which has not been seen for thousands of years”

“The stone line, which curves into the C-shape towards one end, is thought to be a ritual processional route”

“This would be dated to the time of the Sarsen Circle at Stonehenge”

“The stones are believed to have been pushed over and a bank was built over them”

“Archaeologists are trying to investigate when they were built, as there is nothing like it that exists in the world”

“This site is definitely one of the largest stone monuments in Europe and is completely unique”

“The site was used as a ritual site of some kind. As a monument it is very theatrical, as the design is there to impress and empower”

“This circle demonstrates a phase with monumental architecture, as one of the greatest ceremonial sites in prehistoric Europe”

“The stones could be contemporary with the famous Stonehenge Sarsen Circle or even earlier”

“Durrington Walls sits in a depression not far from the River Avon near Amesbury, Wiltshire”

“It is one of the largest known henge monuments measuring around 1,640 feet in diameter”

“It was built around 4,500 years ago in the Neolithic or new Stone Age”

“The site is surrounded by a ditch of up to fifty-four feet wide and a bank of more than three feet high”

“It was also built on the same Summer Solstice alignment”

“Bradford archaeologists have been working alongside an international team of experts as part of the Stonehenge Hidden Landscape Project”

“Having mapped out the entire area with the latest technology, their latest results have produced this evidence at Durrington Walls”

“This is the site of the largest Neolithic settlements in Europe and will add a new dimension to the Stonehenge story”

“We are all living in exciting times and, thanks to ground-breaking technology, scientists are able to reveal what the naked eye cannot!”

6th September 2015

“Mariam Malak, a top-ranked student, not only failed her exams, but received the lowest marks possible”

“This is a case of outright injustice and corruption by the Egyptian examination board, which will have strong repercussions”

“Mariam has been one of Egypt’s top high performing students for a very long time”

“Being confident she would receive high marks, she couldn’t believe it when she saw she got zero and as a result she fainted”

“Mariam scored zero marks out of one hundred, not just in one exam but in all of them”

“This is an outright impossibility and shows that this was a blatant character assassination by an unscrupulous examination board”

“Suspicions have been raised that this happened because she is a member of Egypt’s Coptic Christian minority”

“This has been dismissed and now it looks more likely that she is a victim of corruption”

“Once again Egypt has stooped so low to a level of injustice on their own fellow Egyptians”

“Mariam has been subjected to handwriting tests, which have shown her writing to be markedly different from that on the exam paper”

“Since this injustice has come to light, another top ‘A’ student has come forward to protest her own zero grades”

“This further adds credence that corruption and injustice are there for all to see”

“Mariam Malak will be avenged, as the public outcry will continue until this matter is sorted out publicly”

“The culprits will be found and their crimes exposed”

“The world already knows that Egyptian justice amounts to nothing”

“Their corruption starts at the top and like a cancer filters down to their own subordinates”

“Mariam Malak will achieve her desired career without these corrupt officials and in spite them!”

5th September 2015

“There will soon be a need of a million refugees needing help today”

“This could escalate into five million by the end of this year unless a shift of policy by the international community towards Syria is given”

“Conditions need to be set, whereby Syrians can return to their own country which is primarily what they want to do”

“It is not about Europe or the UK taking in more refugees, but about dealing with the political solutions in Syria itself”

“Syrian people overwhelmingly desire to remain in Syria, but with the political aspect as it stands they are forced out of their own country”

“The inactivity by the international community has caused the Syrian refugee problem”

“The international community ignored the fact that Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons in August 2013”

“Assad killed up to 1,500 of his own people”

“At this time there needs to be safe zones and a non-fly zone implemented, so that Syrians can return to their own country”

“This would be morally right & cost effective, rather than allowing a possible five million refugees to enter into Europe & the Middle East”

“The international military coalition needs to step up the fight against IS and to finally remove Bashar al-Assad from Syria”

“They need to create a living environment for the Syrian people once again”

“The alarming state of affairs is that IS will stop at nothing with their destruction”

“They are in the process of using mustard gas as their latest weapon of choice”

“David Cameron had stated that IS is the greatest threat, yet little has been done in dealing with them”

“Attacks on Iraq and Syria in the last ten days have shown that IS have used…”

“…significant quantities of this deadly Class 1 chemical agent, mustard gas”

“Latest attacks on Peshmerga forces have confirmed mustard gas being used on strategic towns between Aleppo and the Turkish border”

“IS are now escalating their reign of terror campaign and their psychological warfare towards those who oppose them”

“The mustard agent is a prescribed chemical under the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) & is known as a blister agent which is highly toxic”

“These latest two episodes are the most worrying, especially in Syria”

“There, the doctors and civilians have no equipment & little knowledge on how to deal with the effects of a mustard gas attack”

“It was the doctors & first responders, who went into the highly contaminated areas to treat the casualties & who became victims themselves”

“Mustard gas can remain toxic for weeks in some places”

“Bashar al-Assad had a stockpile of this substance which went missing in 2013 when the UN chemical inspectors came in”

“It has now been suggested that mustard gas and the deadly nerve agent VX fell into IS hands last December”

“The further concern is that these deadly chemical weapons should be moved out of Iraq and the Syrian territories”

“It could well have far reaching consequences for the rest of the world”

“The red line by IS has already been crossed”

“It is the international community that must look to remove the main causes of the unrest in Syria”

“Otherwise there will be a five million exodus by the end of this year!”

4th September 2015

“People from every aspect of society are gathering together and demanding justice for their country of Guatemala”

“The outrageous theft of millions of dollars of public money by Guatemalan politicians has caused poor patients to die in public hospitals”

“This has come to light and triggered an unprecedented political awakening in this country”

“The people have come together united for the first time demanding sweeping reforms”

“Jaw-dropping corruption scandals have come to light”

“The country’s political elite are all involved”

“There has been a call over the past few months for the President Otto Perez Molina to resign, which has now happened”

“Molina is stripped of his immunity and now joins his Vice President Roxana Baldetti in jail”

“This has exposed the widespread infiltration of organised crime in party politics and election campaigns”

“The once impossible has now become possible, so ending decades of rampant corruption in the political system”

“Young activists with no real experience of politics have started a popular movement, which has seen Guatemalans take to the streets”

“This has been for peaceful protests since the corruption scandal came to light on 16th April”

“The young people were inspired by social media to inform each other of the facts and to share political information.”

“They were so incensed by the brazen corruption that they promoted a get-together hashtag #renunciaya”

“They hoped they would get likeminded people to demand the resignation of the corrupt officials”

“It turned out that 30,000 people gathered in the main square”

“Tens of thousands from every class, age and political persuasion have gathered each Saturday calling for political heads to roll”

“There has been a UN-sanctioned independent investigative body that has helped prosecute corruption and organised crime since 2007”

“The people pressurised parliamentarians to remove Molina’s immunity”

“Damning wiretap evidence has proved that Molina led the custom’s ring that pocketed millions of dollars in kickbacks”

“This is a historic moment when the Government finally realised that the people won’t tolerate corruption anymore”

“Guatemalans are emerging to break the old cycle of corruption and immunity”

“They see children dying because mothers cannot afford food and where there is not enough money for the hospitals”

“Their mood is aggressive and forthright, the people will see justice done”

“As with all corruption throughout the world, it is the death knell for the entire community who always suffer”

“This is slowly being expunged and justice is slowly coming to light!”

3rd September 2015

“In the olden days, early Christians had to rely on God for their every need”

“In the present day, especially in the West, we all have our creature comforts and drive-through churches”

“Congregations have become complacent and sluggish”

“Congregations are so comfortable and they have the best of everything”

“Anything a person requires they can put on credit when their whims demand it”

“Therefore they are no longer dependent on God for their needs”

“The congregation have become distracted away from God and so the churches are now showing signs of spiritual apathy”

“This makes faith in God a less pressing need”

“The people have air conditioning, remote controls and fast food”

“Their churches have great sound systems, educated preachers plus pews, fine-tuned choirs, pianos and organs”

“There are committees, plans and money”

“There are so many churches in America that it can be guaranteed that they can find one to suit anyone”

“The messages given out are all pleasant and nobody is aching to do any of God’s will”

“The churches in America and the West have lost their way. Spirituality is no longer a part of the ceremony”

“There are no signs of consideration for others less fortunate than themselves”

“They only see the polished televangelists with their perfectly groomed hair”

“Their smiles pulling the wool over thousands of gullible people whom they ask for money”

“How does the world see the Church or even its teachings of Jesus Christ?”

“The teachings of Jesus Christ are no longer taught as he would have them taught”

“People today are led by materialism and that everything that they want can be provided for them”

“God and Jesus Christ have no place in their lives and they have no time for them”

“As with all things that are left there comes a time in all our lives when the Church or society no longer has the answers”

“They have already lost their way”

“Those that are in need must therefore search outside their safe haven and go along a path that is foreign to them”

“Then and only then will they be confronted with the true answers that they need and all is given to them with unconditional love”

“Jesus is out there in the midst of life”

“He only becomes visible for the first time & active in their lives as never before without the confines & restrictions of orthodox religions”

“Then and only then is there a massive spiritual change in one’s life”

“Life takes on for the first time a different meaning that enriches one as never before”

“After that we start to understand the meaning of life”

“We can see why we are actually on this earth in the first place and why Jesus is a vital part of that life!”

2nd September 2015

“A new method of applying insecticide to netting has proved 100% effective against some strains of mosquitos”

“An electrostatic coating allows the netting to carry much higher doses of insecticide”

“Experiments have proven that the coating has killed off many more mosquitoes than usual”

“The new electrostatic coating could help control diseases such as Malaria”

“Insecticide resistance in mosquitoes has become a significant problem in many parts of the world, where Malaria is endemic”

“It’s been discovered that water based spray insecticides & bed nets that contain low levels of insecticide, don’t always kill the mosquitos”

“This allows them to develop resistance”

“It is the long-lasting electrostatic charge that allows high levels of insecticide to stick fast to the netting”

“This gives the mosquitoes a lethal overdose when they come into contact with the surface, even for a few seconds”

“Conventional netting kills fewer than 10% of mosquitoes and so the new idea will now see that fewer people suffer from mosquito bites”

“This technique has been tested on different strains of mosquitoes”

“This was done in South Africa, Tanzania and in a laboratory at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine”

“The research has found that with the electrostatic coating more mosquitoes have been killed than other form of netting”

“It is also 100% effective on certain insecticide resistance mosquitoes”

“The electrostatic coating can be used on screens, windows and doors around the home”

“It also works in the home on curtains, on walls, in mosquito traps and in wall ventilation tubes”

“This is a new way of trying to target and contaminate mosquitoes that blight the lives of thousands around the world”

“The world is grateful for the dedicated souls, who work diligently to bring about solutions for those suffering from mosquitoes bites”

“Mosquitos have already plagued millions of lives”

1st September 2015

“In 2010 a scientific survey showed that eight million tonnes of plastic rubbish ended up in the oceans from coastal countries”

“This is far more than has been measured floating on the surface in the ocean’s “garbage patches”

“This is bad enough, but this news is set to get worse, as the tonnage of rubbish is set to increase tenfold over the next decade”

“The world needs to find ways to improve how rubbish is collected and managed”

“The top ten sources of the ocean’s plastic waste are as follows”

“China, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Egypt and Nigeria”

“The US is ranked 20th on the list”

“Eight million tons of plastic rubbish is like lining up five grocery bags of rubbish on every foot of coastline around the globe”

“By 2025, those five grocery bags will then become ten bags if rubbish management practices remain the same”

“Ocean plastic has been found everywhere, in the deep sea and buried in the Arctic ice”

“It has had dire consequences to some 700 species of marine wildlife”

“Published studies show that the amount of plastic in seabird’s stomachs has been climbing over the past half-century”

“In 1960 plastic was found in the stomachs of less than 5% of seabirds, but by 2010 it has now risen to 80%”

“It has been predicted by 2050, 99% of the world’s seabird species will be eating plastic unless we all take action to clean up our oceans”

“The area worst hit is the Southern Ocean off Australia”

“Here is the highest density of plastic and there is the largest number of different seabird species here”

“Seabirds are excellent indicators of the ecosystem’s health”

“The high amount of plastic in seabirds is not surprising.  There have been nearly 200 pieces of plastic found in a single seabird”

“The items found were plastic bags, bottle caps, bits of balloons, cigarette lighters, even toothbrushes and plastic toys”

“The plastic found in birds made up 8% of their body weight, which is considerable”

“The more plastic a seabird encounters, the more it tends to eat”

“This shows that the concentration of ocean plastic in a region can be removed allowing for less to be eaten. It can never be digested”

“By improving waste management around the world, it will have a direct benefit to wildlife”

“Globally we must all do our bit regarding waste management”

“There needs to be a drastic reduction in packaging”

“Single-use plastic items must be banned and deposits used for recyclable items like drink containers”

“It has been by improving management in our industrial practices in Europe, where it has been most noticed”

“There has been a reduction in the number of plastic items found in seabirds in the North Sea within a few decades”

“This proves that the solutions are effective in a relatively short time”

“A simple change of behaviour can reduce the global impact on seabirds and other marine species as well!”

“We owe it to our natural habitat and to the oceans, which serve us all”

“We need to do our utmost to clean up our mess and stop it creating greater environmental damage”
