“Mr Dick Pound has
recommended that Russia be banned from athletic competition”
“The fallout from Pound’s
explosive report uncovered a deep-rooted culture of cheating in Russian
athletics in track and field events”
“As a result he has
recommended that Russia be excluded from participating in the Olympic Games in
Brazil in 2016”
“The evidence has already
demonstrated a shocking level of corruption”
“This will send a clear
message to Russia that it cannot be allowed to cheat”
“They have already cheated on
the world’s greatest athletes and have escaped justice behind a wall of
deception and lies”
“Russia has created an
organised state supporting doping and so has no business being allowed to compete
on the world stage”
“It has also been suggested
that they cheated in the London 2012 Olympics in which Russia won twenty-four
gold medals”
“They were in a sense
sabotaged by the admission of their own athletes that they should not have been
competing”
“In the 2012 London Olympics
the US men’s team 4x100m relay were ordered to return their medals after they
were found cheating”
“It is high time that Russia
returned their gold medals for their blatant arrogance thinking they could get
away with it”
“What is more damning is that
the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) is covering up the
abuse”
“In our tweets of 19th August
this year, we had already stated that Russia currently had sixty-seven of their
athletes serving sanctions”
“These were for doping
offences according to the then report by the IAAF”
“A severe message must be
given out”
“All countries will be
excluded from the Olympic Games if they do not get their house in order and
become clean”
“It is the athletes around
the world, who can never have faith in their sport until they are protected
against these cheats”
“It is the IAAF and Russia
that have collectively failed them all!”

helped them”
“Amer, a field monitor for
UNHCR drove a truck carrying bottled water for the camp”
“A nun volunteer once helped
him unload the three tonnes of water. Amer was searching for refugees to help
him unload

shook him by the hand and thanked him”
“The man kissed him on the
cheek in return. It was his warmth that moved Amer”

tent and cry when their parents come to take them away and move on”

organisation sent from Germany to set up a stand in the transit camp in
Gevgelija to provide hot tea and coffee”

against women”

organisations supported by all the country’s political parties were present to
demonstrate”

“At the Unity Youth Centre in
Toxteth, a Liverpool chief rustles up free meals for a handful of hungry
children”
“The chef is cooking with
ingredients that otherwise would have gone to waste”
“There is nothing wrong with
the food. It’s all fresh stuff, but it has been rejected by the supermarkets”
“The ingredients, which
include fruit, vegetables and meat, haven’t even made the shelves yet”
“This is because there isn’t
space on them, so it comes as a massive side order of waste”
“FareShare is the charity
that redistributes that food in the Unity Centre, but the charity only requires
2% of the unsold produce”
“The charity’s aim is to get
25% of it to provide for 1.5 million free meals a week to people who are in
need”
“The big supermarkets are so
big that they can afford to sell only a proportion of the produce and discard
the rest”
“The waste is hundreds of
thousands of tonnes each year”
“The rest of the wasted food
goes into a processing plant that breaks down the organic matter”
“It produces methane gas that
is burnt to make electricity”
“This waste is still edible
food and should be given to poor hungry people”
“Retailers should be creating
less waste and this produce should be eaten by the people”
“There is also the tragedy of
all the fresh produce that does not come up to the supermarkets’ ‘cosmetic
standards’”
“Until the people vote with
their feet to only go to supermarkets that do not have waste or give to
charitable concerns, little will change”
“Again it is people power
that will eventually call the shots on waste produce and bring the big
retailers to account!”
